How many grams of hair do you need?

Too little hair is what makes extensions look thin at the ends. A simple guide to choosing how many grams to order.

The most common reason extensions look obvious isn’t the bonds — it’s too little hair. When the extensions are fuller than your own hair at the ends, the difference shows.

Three things decide how much you need:

  1. The length you want. Longer hair needs more grams to stay full to the ends.
  2. Your own hair. Fine hair needs less to blend; thick hair needs more to keep up.
  3. Your goal. Adding volume takes less than adding both length and volume.

A starting point

For a full install aiming for length and volume on medium hair:

Length Starting weight
18″ 100 g
20–22″ 150 g
24–26″ 200 g
28″ 250 g

Fine hair usually needs about 50 g less; thick hair about 50 g more. If you only want volume, not extra length, take about 50 g less.
